Our Favorite Part of SXSW 2019

We LOVE when music festivals highlight the importance of having a great band biography, especially when submitting for consideration to be a part of the lineup. Our favorite part of SXSW this year was when Rory Burbeck, SXSW Music Festival Programmer, told bands,

“Submitting a clear, thorough, and succinct artist biography serves two key purposes. Of course, the music festival programming team wants to know who you are, where you come from, and where you’re going so we have some context when making a decision on your application. Beyond your application, if you are invited to be an official SXSW Showcasing Artist our marketing team will reference your biography in our own campaigns leading up to the music festival. Because of this, it’s very important your biography reflect how you want your band and music to be described.”

Band Biography

In other words, not only is your band biography used to help you get on stage, it’s also used in every marketing campaign the festival sends out.

Band Biography

South By features more than 2,000 (that’s insane) performing artists over a ten day span. That’s a lot of band biographies – and a lot of opportunity. Did you play at SXSW this year? If not, could your current band biography have something to do with that?

Band Biography

According to Festicket.com the 2019 TOP 15 Music Festivals in the USA are: Coachella, Lollapalooza, SXSW, Pitchfork, Electric Daisy Carnival, ACL, Ultra, The Governors Ball, NO Jazz & Heritage, Electric Zoo, Electric Forest, Burning Man, Bonnaroo, Hot 97 Summer Jam, and AFROPUNK. Most, if not all, of these festivals require a strong band bio as part of their submission process.
